My main interest at the moment is Blender.
If you don't know what blender is, it is an open source 3D graphics program. A 3D graphics program is the kind of software you use to make things like Toy Story, Shrek, Shark's Tale, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc and all those other wonderful animated movies that have come out over the last few years. You can also use it to add visual effects to real video recordings like Transformers, Who framed Roger Rabbit and just about any movie released in the last few years.
With version 2.62 having been released a little while ago the new tools to do things like camera and object tracking have made adding effects to existing video a whole lot easier - and cheaper.
If you haven't tried Blender then head over to Blender Download page and try it out. And when you have been totally overwhelmed and lost by everything then try some introduction tutorials. A new series at 3DBuzz is recommended, it is broken up into 63 peices of between 5 and 30 minutes each and does a good job of covering all the basics. Blender Cookie's Introduction Tutorial is also a great place to start. BlenderCookie has lead the way in online Blender video tutorials for a few years now and you can't go wrong there.
